As the Americans approached, Mario Vinicio, podestà of Ardea, decided to entrust municipal powers to Attilio Cappellaro, a diehard anti-fascist. Putting aside their political differences, the two agreed to marry their two sons, believing that in this way the ‘command’ could remain in the family. The day of the wedding arrives and everything is going well when the arrival of a local fascist squire, Crippa, messes everything up and has a team of fascists arrive from Latina to restore order. That same night Crippa is found dead and Mario and Andrea, to avoid further trouble, have to make the corpse disappear.
