Taken from as many novellas by Luigi Pirandello, the film's episodes tell the stories of a hunchback who becomes a prisoner in a jar (Pástina), a young mother who begs in order to buy a fan (Soldati), a jester who obtains an official certificate to be exploited to earn money with his extraordinary qualities (Zampa), and a best man who gets a wedding celebration that was in danger of being postponed (Fabrizi).
