Marino Bottecchia, nicknamed Mocassino, lives off the prostitute Tiziana, and when she turns up dead, he is the main suspect. However, Isolina Pantò, who runs a private nursery, denies his story and Marino is sentenced to 20 years in prison. Later, the woman, consumed by doubt, decides to recant and the sentence is reduced to only four years: in the meantime, she visits him in prison and soon the two decide to get married, but when he is finally released from prison the situation takes an unexpected turn.
