Adriana is a beautiful but poor girl whose mother finds her a job as a model for a painter with the secret hope of later launching her into a more lucrative and easier career. One day she falls in love with a chauffeur who immediately declares he wants to marry her. Adriana believes these promises and while waiting to see them fulfilled, she becomes her fiancé's lover. But he soon turns out to be a husband with children and Adriana, disgusted and disappointed, ends up turning to prostitution. One evening she runs into a young man, Gino, with whom she falls passionately in love. Gino, however, has other concerns besides love. He is part of an underground political group...
