After 8 September 1943, the fascist party in Ferrara tightened its ranks, but was torn between two different tendencies: that of the moderate federalist Bolognesi and that of the fanatical Aretusi, who had the former assassinated and, attributing the crime to the anti-fascists, unleashed a violent reprisal, having eleven hostages shot. But time cancels many things: the son of one of the victims, Franco, who fled to Switzerland, returns to Ferrara after 18 years and, meeting Aretusi, shakes his hand cordially.
