The eclectic Wertmüller was born in Rome on August 14th, 1928. She has always been known as a woman with a very strong character, capable of not letting herself get pushed around.

Her films have often been the subject of discussions, on political and social commitment, feminist themes, anarchy and social difficulties. In the second half of the 1960s, she started a partnership with the actor Giancarlo Giannini, star of films such as ''Mimì Metallurgico ferito nell'onore'' (1972) considered among the best portray of Southern Italy’s situation.

She is the first woman to be nominated for an Oscar for best director. She inspired many women, she had the courage to continue on her path in an era where there were few women who approached this profession and there were many prejudices about it.
