Cani randagi (Stray Dogs), the film directed by Alessandro Zizzo, takes place in Salento, where journalist Andrea Riccardi (Giorgio Consoli) returns to his homeland to tell a crime story. The area is controlled by two families, the Scarano and the Basile, fighting each other for the region. The former has been rooted in the area for generations, while the latter aims to put a new face on local crime.
Riccardi's investigations lead to a bitter truth: hatred and the underworld do not only belong to the past but are still alive, and have new faces and blood on their hands.
